Elderly patients at nursing homes are playing more than just bingo for entertainment these days.
Medical officials at McLean County Nursing Home are finding that playing Nintendo Wii video games is helping patients recover from strokes, broken bones and surgeries. Doctors and nurses are even finding that the games are providing “Wiihab” for Alzheimer’s sufferers.
Wii video games involve participants moving in ways that are similar to traditional therapy exercises. Even people confined to wheelchairs can play sports such as baseball, tennis and bowling with the “Wiihabilitation” system.
